The Sony PS4 launch event has still left some people reeling from the news, or lack thereof, of an actual image of the PS4 itself. But what did we learn at the conference?
Firstly, the PS4 will suck. I’ve never been less interested in a console in my life. I will admit, before the conference I was curious. To the point I actually imagined waiting for release and saving up to pre-order. But the jam was taken out of my doughnut with all the latest news.
Let’s break it down shall we?
The controller:
“What the PS4 controller needs is a touchscreen on the front” said no one ever.
Why in fucks name would anyone want that? Not forgetting that the new controller has a blue light, oooo. This will allow it to act like a move controller with the new PS4 Eye camera. So basically, increase the price of replacement controllers by 50%. There is also the story of PS3 controllers not working with the PS4. Just another reason to hate Sony that little bit more.
The Graphics:
I will admit, the thought of the next generation consoles running on what are essentially gaming PC’s is intriguing. So much potential for modding and such. But the graphics we saw didn’t blow us away. Then again, were they meant to? Us PC gamers expect such high quality nowadays. When playing Skyrim/GTA IV/Assassins Creed on a PC on high settings then playing the same game on a console is night and day. But compared to the PS3, the graphics did look nice. So some points for you Sony.
The Games:
What games we saw looked nice. But I saw an interesting pattern. A lot of the games mentioned were also coming out on the Xbox and the PS3. So why do I need the PS4 again?
Some games looked really nice, but there was a definite lack of a spark here. Couldn’t put my finger on it.
The rest:
The fact that the PS4 cannot play PS3 games has divided people. However, those who say “It’s called progression, of course it’s not going to play PS3 games” are missing a point. In today’s modern age, where you can stream games, play games, which required a large console to play back in the day, on your mobile, shows just how far we have come. It’s no longer acceptable to chuck our games out just because Sony wants to upgrade. I understand there will be some technical issues to emulate PS3 games on the new software on the PS4, but frankly, fucking get it down. You will sell a hell of a lot more consoles if people could play PS3 games on it right from launch, rather than “we will get around to it”.
The conference did highlight some interesting social ideas. But at the end of the day, I play games because I am an antisocial fuck. Not to make new friends or have existing friends (which I don’t have) to interact with me in unique ways.
I play games to immerse myself in the world. Not to be reminded how rich my life would be if I had some real friends. I never thought games would depress me.
Bungie made an appearance. If nothing else, it was to show off their stage presence.
They were about to peddle their new massive online 1st person….zzzzz. Sorry,I dozed off. Usually happens when I hear the same shit twice.
I highly doubt the PS4 will be the console I want it to be. With all the rumours and new facts about what it can and cannot do, I’ve decided I won’t bother. I shall await new of the new Xbox.
